Questions without an answer (or at least i don't know the answer)

New land, new home

New land, new home, originally uploaded by Raul Crimson.

Some days ago, while I was relaxing near the sea, some questions or curiosities came to my mind, and for some of them i don’t have an answer, can you help me? they are turning me crazy! ;-)

  • Why Ruth (the default avatar) is so fucking ugly? I mean, does the Linden who created Ruth hate women or something? Of course i don’t pretend Ruth to be Barbie (or Ken)… but that BIG foot! That hair!
  • Why exactly some people consider “bling” so cool? Of course some bling detail can be nice, but, OMG! some avatars seem a Christmas tree!!! When you land in some places, better wear your sunglasses, mate. Can i sue them for damaging my computer screen and my eyes?
  • What is exactly the limit in the use of “Gestures” for being funny and not being annoying? I mean, you go to a party or a club and most of the main chat is full of “gestures text” kinda: “Woohoo!”, “::: >^o^< :::” or “Hawwwzzzlll”, all this followed of a diversity of sounds, from “farts” to sentences like “mind if i suck on that?” (I swear i have this gesture). All this is fun for some minutes, but after a time it becomes quite annoying. Should the club owners limit the Gpm (gesture per minute) maximum rate?

Sure there will be more questions in my mind, but don’t want to bore you saying them all at once. ;-) Or you think is better i stop thinking about this stupid questions? :-D

“Of course some bling detail can be nice…”

No, you are very wrong, Raul. Just say “no” to bling!
    ;-)

I must admit i like some bling sometimes, I have a pair of earing that are just to much. But hey bling is nice, make the stuff feel a live. Thet some have to much, I like some lights at xmas as well, but for that it doens’t have to be like some places, 2-millions blinking lights.

And of course ruth have to look bad, it’s a way of keeping shape makes in busy, then need some one to make money, now that they try to make all sexual and gambling illegal.

Too much of all this is too much.
As Nadine said too, I think Ruth has to be so ugly, otherwise we would not have the urge to adjust our skins and shapes.
And about the gestures, I think they are pretty boring to me too. I hate it, coming to a party while my screen pops up in a , way too long, chat history, just because of the repeating gestures. If we could do something about it, I would appreciate that for sure.

Suddenly, I have the overpowering urge to wear bling :)

I think Ruth is so ugly in order to make us all feel good about ourselves. No matter how bad your shape is, you can say, “At least I’m not Ruth” :)

As for gestures, I tend to be indifferent towards them, except at a live show in world. It always annoys me, for instance, when I’m at a concert of my friend Annie’s band and someone uses an applause gesture repeatedly. There is one yay gesture, though, that cracks me up practically every time I hear it.

Suddenly, I have the overpowering urge to break up with my girlfriend for wearing bling =)

  6. Khamudy Mannonen says :

The Ruth avatar is so ugly because she was the first one made, way back when Second Life was in its first Betas (I think it was called Linden World back then). She, and most of the other basic avatars, have not really been updated since then – one possible reason being a lack of time, the other being, as Nadine said, because residents have created their own ways of customising your avatar. Only Philip, I think, clings to his very basic appearance in world.

Bling is a matter of taste, but if one were looking for why and where it came from, one would have to look to sociology and the need for ostentatious display of wealth. I don’t mind a small sparkle on a piece of jewellery on a very slow repeat, but people get a bit silly.

There is a word for the final issue, “gesturbating”. I personally hate the “Hoo!” one. As someone far wittier than I once commented “It’s like a flock of ghetto owls broke in here!”.

About Ruth, even i understand the reasons, specially after reading Kham’s answer i’m sure “the mother of all the avatars” deserve a better appearance ;-)

About bling *bling*, i swear *blink* i never wear *blink* jewelry with *blink* blink :-P

    About gestures…. Hoo!
