Femenine

Relax, originally uploaded by Raul Crimson.

Yesterday i spent some time wearing my female avatar to take some pics with my friend Khamudy. After finishing the session i met Silverdrake, she asked me to keep wearing this avatar and we started an interesting chat about the feelings when you wear an avatar of a different gender than yours. Here are some thoughts.

Personally I think “my girl” looks quite nice, worked on that avatar to make it look as i’d like it to look. All the avatars are expressions of ourselves, this also, but was a unconscious ellection, not planned, just saw things i liked for this avatar (clothes, hair, …) and all went together quite right.

I presume this avatar is a expression of my femenine side, or a expression of my inner image of woman as a concept. Maybe because my sexual orientation i have a concept of woman quite different that the concept of most heterosexual men have. I see the sensual part of a woman more than the sexual one. And maybe i imagine a woman more sophisticated than that concept mentioned before.

Another curious thing, when i wear a female avatar i have the tendence to be less naughty. Yes, i control my jokes, don’t know why. Silverdrake has the inverse experience, when she wears a male avatar he becomes much more naughty (if this is possible).

I soooo need to get back to ‘finishing’ my male avatar. One day, I would very much like to meet your female version, Raul, as I would be fascinated to find out how I react and whether you ‘feel’ any different to me. One day I shall pluck up courage and ask to meet Wolf’sa female counterpart, but right now, that just seems toooo wierd! LOL

And, one day, I really will get around to blogging my thought on the gender/identity/sexuality topic.

I think that this extends beyond matters of just gender to all social roles. We are very cognizant of what is expected from different types of people, and when we are placed in these roles, we tend to adopt the mannerisms associated with them.

There’s a famous psychological study in which students were asked to participate in an experiment in which they were assigned the role of either an officer or an inmate. The students were not told to act in any particular way outside of being told what role in which they would be placed. Soon, the interactions between the two groups reflected the stereotyped dynamic we perceive between officers and prisoners (e.g., officers began to be unkind towards the prisoners, prisoners began showing signs of depression). They actually had to end the study early because they were afraid of the psychological effect it was having on the participants.

I even noticed how a different shape and clothing can change my attitude last night. All day yesterday, I was working on shapes and then taking pictures for the vendors. I created a thin neko shape and dressed her in some of my grungier clothing, attached eyebrow and lip rings, and I even had a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. Because I liked the way the shape turned out, I wore it around all last night while I went out exploring/shopping. At one store, I was approached by a tactless male avie asking for sex (imagine that), and as I sat wondering how to get rid of him, I really felt like telling him to f**k off (I didn’t), which is something that I’m not sure would have really come into my mind in my normal shape. This did seem like an appropriate response for the shape I was wearing and the role associated with it, though.

The social roles are concepts inside our education, so sure they affect us a lot. I understand your point, Chloe, maybe in other circumpstances i would react in different ways, but we are human, and we have (almost always) the fight between our social and our individual side.
Anyway i think is quite interesting to see how this social role affects me, another way to know more about myself.

Whether mister or missus, you can still put the words “The Fantastic _____ Crimson” around it. ; )
