Fashionista

Fashionista… interesting word, but what the hell means? Is not in the Wikipedia so… Well, fashionista seem to be people who follow fashion, who likes it and even who lives it (please, correct me in comments if i’m not right, not existing a definition in the Wikipedia i just created one on the run). Am I a fashionista? Well, i love fashion, you probably know it, and i enjoy shopping and stuff… but i don’t think i’m a fashionista.

Anyway, there are certain cliques in Second Life, groups who consider themselves the “court” or SLfashion, the voice of SLfashion, the truth of SLfashion. Some time ago the great Broder Kubrick made this “magazine cover” (published under a Creative Commons license) as a parody about one of the magazines published “inside” one of this cliques. I still laugh hard everytime i look at it!!!!

    Raul,

I love your humor! I have ALWAYS hated the clickques in SL.

I admire how you always find your way clear of them, I know you have many friends in all circles.

    You are my HERO!

    Hiero

Thanks, Thau and Hiero. Well, i presume cliques are something understandable in social systems as Second Life, but some of them are… how to say it?… hilarious? ;-)

Well, the Oxford English Dictionary describes “fashionista” as:

colloq. (orig. N. Amer.). Sometimes depreciative.

A person employed in the creation or promotion of high fashion, as a designer, photographer, model, fashion writer, etc. Also: a devotee of the fashion industry; a wearer of high-fashion clothing.

So this pretty much covers anyone into clothes and style.

I wouldn’t say I have a clique, although I do hang out with KMADD people (OMG he’s a clone, actually my shape originally came from their competitor and then I tweaked the hell out of it to make it mine), but I know people in other areas and I do find the whole “OMG you’re not in my group you must not be fashionable!” attitude amusing.
