Rememberance
Yesterday morning i visited the Linden Memorial Park (SLurl), one of the newest works of the LDPW (Linden Department of Public Works). It is a good place to think about people is not here anymore.
After more than two years in Second Life one meets a lot of people, people that come and go, people who only shares with you a second… or much more, friends, lovers, problems and smiles. So i was thinking there about it, about all the people that came to my life and had to go, thinking about those moments, those great moments.
The love i have for my friends doesn’t make me forget all that ones, sometimes they had to go for good reasons, sometimes not so good ones, but they left in my heart a piece of themselves. From here i’d like to say “Thanks” for this pieces.
Pornosophy… or simple exhibitionism?
Possibly you know there is an “artshow” in Second Life® called Pornosophy (SLurl), well, i know about it in Flickr some time ago, also some friends told me about it. Once opened visited it with some friends, and, sincerely, had a bad impression as i’ll explain. Anyway, wanted to come back, take some pics and explore more the place.
Once you arrive there the first you find is this sign, what actually is good, also you can find around some “sperm splashes”, all together is clear what the show is about.

Really wanted to explore it deeper after my bad first impression, specially about the artistic side of the show. Yeah, we can consider this show has an artistic and a political sides. Let’s talk first about the political one. As you know in the last couple of years there was an increasing pressure against the “sexual life” inworld.
And finally it arrived to a moment when Linden Lab decided to apply more content restrictions, or zoning restrictions actually. You can find more information about the ratings here. Also some in the Linden Lab Blogs you can find some posts about it like this one. I know one of the main reasons to start this show was this, what we can call the “Adult paranoia”. So politically i agree with the show, they are someway protesting against this new censor policy and that’s good, is a creative way to protest, is not violent and has sense of humour.
Anyway, the bad part for me was the artistic one. Possibly i expected too much and then i felt deceived. Ok, i don’t expect porn to be art, of course it can be, but is not something usual, porn has its own codes and stereotypes so it can be difficult to make something really original or artistic. Although all this limitations of the theme it is still possible to make something different, playing with those codes and stereotypes. Sadly is not what i saw in the show
.
With some few exceptions (under my point of view there are only 6 or 7 good works) the artworks, SLphotography and installations, are lost in the stereotypes, are more or less what you can find in the Second Life [Mature] group in Flickr, basically images of avatars having sex. Most of the images don’t have some minimum care in composition, story, lighting. Some are roughly edited with Photoshop filters that don’t work good with the scene, even at least one of the images is made with Poser (that is not bad itself, is just the show is supposed to be an SL creation show). The vision of sexuality shown in most of the images is plain or bizarre, or both at the same time.
You know i don’t use to be critical, because i use to try to see the positive part of everything, but this time i felt even upset. Maybe because i think there were more possibilities than the ones shown there, maybe because i expected the team working on that project to show some more imagination, to go further being creative, to make a really good protest. Sadly what i found there was mostly what you can find in any sex club in SL, but with Photoshop filters, of course. Images of sex that take themselves too seriously. There is no critic, there’s no story, there’s no protest, there’s only virtual sex. I don’t think the concept of freedom is the right to show our virtual penises and clits around, i think freedom of expression is that and much more, but, sadly, that simple exhibitionism was mainly what i percieved in the show.
As i mentioned above i know porn has some limitations and i understand is not easy to make good one, and is even harder to make art with it. That’s why i’d like to point the few works that had that special something, that few works with a great work of composition, or story, or with some sweet touch of humour. I will mention 4 even there were a few more. The images of Silverdrake Sparrow, Zinc Karas and Mune Asano and the installation by four Yip. This four works are for me the best in the show.
All this post, as all my blog, is only my point of view. Of course you can agree or not, anyway, go there, take a look and make your own opinion.
Residents' Choice Awards 2009, the results
Linden Lab just published the winners of the Residents’ Choice Awards 2009.
First of all, congrats to the winners!!! Specially to Prad Prathivi, becuase he was voted as the best blogger!
Personally i think this awards were a really good initiative from Linden Lab, maybe some people may take them as a competition (as any other award or contest) but actually is a help and a push to the creators and bloggers.
Lindens have placed a “Winner’s Circle” (the one in the pic), go there (SLurl) and see the complete list inworld too.
Blogger Style Throwdown at Men's Second Style
Some weeks ago Express Zenovka invited me to be part in one of the Blogger Style Throwdowns at the great male SLfashion blog Men’s Second Style. I’ve been a follower of that blog for a long time so was an honour and a surprise to recieve the note from Express asking me to “play the game” with him.
Please, go to the blogpost and vote (for me, pleeeease), you will find there also SLurl to the stores, anyway, i’ll post here my images and story:
Raul Crimson – Library Worm
“Where is that book i’m looking for? That book…”. All the evening in the library, looking for one book, a really special one.

Finally he found it in one of the bookcases. The book he was looking for, the book he needed, the perfect one to cover what he was afraid to show.

He went out of the library, smiling with the book in his hand. Walking in the street, going to work, thinking about how useful that book will be.

When he started to work in the Stripper Club, he realized how good the choice and how well the book fit.

Did someone said that sex sales?
The "we-are-splitting-and-i-hate-you" show
I always try to be positive, to see the good side of people and things. Yeah, i really try it! Most of the people who really knows me can confirm that affirmation. Anyway, sometimes, some things, made me feel angry, or deceived, or upset, or just sad. I don’t know if writing about them is useful, or good, but it is what i want to do. I don’t pretend either nothing more than expressing what’s in my mind. I know for sure i’m not the one who owns the absolute truth and i don’t pretend to own it… but sometimes i just can say: WTF?
I dislike when someone posts something in his blog about another person and is really personal stuff. Of course is really wrong and ugly when someone posts the IP address or personal information about someone else, that is not only wrong, that’s also against the TOS of Second Life, but i’m not talking about that. Some days ago i read a post of a girl, a resident in SL, who was talking about the split she had with her former RL/SL partner. It was written like a letter, like a direct message full of fake paternalism and absolutely destructive, and possibly that would be the good idea to fix the problems they may have between them. But writing it in a public forum, like in a blog, is something i find personally quite disgusting, so wrong in so many levels. First, i don’t care about the reason they had to split or the issues they are having, even they were friends of mine i didn’t expected to have that information out of a private conversation. And second, personally i think when someone is doing that is not trying to express feeling, i’m sure that girl has friends to talk about this issue, the only reason i find is revenge, is manipulation, because that message in a public forum only pretends to damage the public image of the other side. Sadly is not the first time i see something like this, and probably it won’t be the last time either. Maybe one year ago i was “involuntary audience” of a show in the same style in Flickr, and that one included “proves” of infidelity and pictures of their SLchild saying things like “Dad, don’t be bad with mom!”.
I know human relationships are not easy, i know the breaking of a couple is a really bad experience, but i also think some people tries to damage really bad the other one after a split and sorry, that’s a game i don’t want to play.
Nothing more for now about this, I will be back now to the guy who tries to see (almost) always the positive side of life and things.
